Kang Chi

Just finished watching 24 episodes of Gu Family Book starring Lee Seung Gi and Bae Suzy. Phew! That was long. I managed to finished it in 6 days really finding time to watch this drama behind my work schedule. The day I first watched it, I cannot let go of each episode of it. Though the story is quite long and being a melodrama-historical-action genre it didn't bore me at all, unlike the others that I've seen with the same genre. I greatly recommend for people to watch it. Worth watching.

Yoon Seo Hwa and Gu Wol Ryung
Kang Chi's parents.

I cannot count the times I cried and laughed and amazed by this drama. The story is awesome from the start until the end. The story of Kang Chi's parents was so heartbreaking. Wol Ryung, the divine creature who is Kang Chi's father had turned into an evil creature after being betrayed by Seo Hwa, the human, mother of Kang Chi. After giving birth to Kang Chi, he was found by the businessman Lord Park Moo Seol in the river and adopted him. The lord had treated Kang Chi as his own son. The lord's character here is so warm, kind and great. He helps the poor and always willing to help. But the monstrous character Ju Gwan Joong killed the lord and take over the lord's business and properties. The same event as with Seo Hwa's family happened to the lord's family.

At first we'll see that Cheong Joo was Kang Chi's love interest. She was the daughter of Lord Park who was sold as a gisaeng after the lord dies. And by the way Kang Chi and Yeo Wool played by Suzy had many encounter during this time. They've been helping each other and of course often see each other which leads to Yeo Wool developing her feelings to Kang Chi and discovering that Kang Chi was the child who protected her when they were still little and the reason she learned to use the sword. But when Kang Chi was already able to show his divine creature side, Cheong Joo threw rocks at him and ran away from him but Yeo Wool protected him and stayed beside him instead. And so, the start of their love story. The love between the two leads was something. Something that is admirable.

The drama's finale was heartbreaking because Yeo Wool has to face her fate of being with Kang Chi. Though she knew it will happen, she chose to stay with the man he loves. Kang Chi left the place after and planned to live as a divine creature. I thought it's already the end of the story but unexpectedy there's "after 422 years, year 2013" and I felt relieved. This is a good finale. Kang Chi was still alive and who is now wealthy met the people from his past through reincarnation I think, and one of them was Yeo Wool, having the same name and character. And that's it. After that meeting was not shown anymore making people like me want more, a season 2 perhaps. But then I also think it's better to leave it there than to ruin the story by prolonging it.

Job very well done for Lee Seung Gi and Suzy. I liked them both since the first drama I watched them. Lee Seung Gi in My Girlfriend is a Gumiho which I liked Shin Min Ah too and which is my top favorite k-drama and Suzy in Dream High which is also in the list of my favorite drama. I admire both of their character in this drama and of course it's because of their good portrayal. I never thought that they'll be a good pair but they do. I hope to see them again in a new drama.

The songs in the drama are good too. Here's some of them with clips of some part of the story.
